Eagal Lakes Resort sponsored the First Annual 5K Run/Walk to a Brighter Christmas on December 5, 2011. Participants received an entry discount with the donation of a new unwrapped gift for a child. Christmas music played and many of the participants dressed in the spirit of Christmas for this frosty morning run.
It was a crisp 40 degrees on the day of the event and volunteers from The Tracy Triumph Girls Soccer Team did a fantastic job working the course and directing the parking. Cross Country coaches from both Tracy High and Kimball High volunteered their time for the timing and placement of awards. Volunteers from Brighter Christmas, including Tracy City Councilman, Steve Abercrombie, greeted the participants and helped with registration. Eagal Lakes extends a huge thank you to all of our volunteers.
We had 63 participants in all age groups both running and walking the 5K course with many spectators cheering on the runners. The first place winner was from Tracy High Cross Country team.
While waiting for the final tally for award placement, the participants and spectators enjoyed Christmas music, pastries donated by Mike Beck with Tracy Triumph Soccer, hot chocolate, hot coffee and were warmed by the bonfire. Few were brave enough to attempt the Jet Ski ride with Santa’s Elf! Santa photos and event photos were sponsored by Apred Studios. We were able to donate over 60 gifts and a cash donation to Brighter Christmas. This year, Brighter Christmas has over 900 families and 2100 children in Tracy that will benefit from generous donations of toys and food for Christmas.
Brighter Christmas is a non-profit group that provides food and toys to Tracy families in need during the Christmas Holidays for over 30 years. Ninety seven percent of all money raised, through the generosity of the Tracy Community, goes towards the purchase of food and new toys.
